Join the Baxter's Pond Foundation for a special community event!
9:00 am — Early Fall Pond Clean-Up
10:00 am — Guided Nature Walk with David Jakim, expert field biologist and Director of New York Wild Walks and the Port Washington Coalition for Biodiversity
We are proud to co-sponsor this event with the Port Washington Public Library.
What to Expect
Meet at the flagpole at Baxter’s Pond. Wear comfortable clothes—bags, gloves, and snacks will be provided. Families are warmly welcome!
The free, guided 45-minute walk will take you along Baxter’s Pond and creek, through a forested path filled with:
Majestic trees: tulip trees and white oaks up to 5 feet wide
Wildflowers, fungi, and edible/medicinal plants
Wildlife: frogs, turtles, dragonflies, and fish
Birds: great blue herons, snowy egrets, black-crowned night herons, and more
The creek, fed by springs from Beacon Hill and Main Street, also provides Port Washington’s sole habitat for two-lined salamanders.
